A Sibling Story
Our Story
How It All Began
One Plate. Two Siblings. Zero Regrets.
Vinod and Vennala grew up in Hyderabad — two siblings united by one thing: food. If it was on the table, they fought over it. Biryani, haleem, mirchi bajji — Amma learned early to make extra. Vinod, the younger one, was the instigator. Always hunting for the next big thing to eat and drag his sister to.
So when Vinod stumbled into a small Middle Eastern café in the Old City and ordered kunafa — without any idea what it was — it was only a matter of time before he was texting Vennala about it. Vennala, already living in Bangalore, had learned to manage his food enthusiasm with a healthy level of scepticism over WhatsApp. This time, though, she made the trip.
What followed was a very typical sibling conversation — which also happened to be the founding moment of Kunafa & Beyond.

Vennala showed up the next morning, had one bite, and said nothing for a full minute. Then: “okay let's do it.” The business plan was written on a napkin.

The Deal
The City Split
A year of secret kitchen experiments later — many burnt batches, one very confused mother, and three kilos of test kunafa consumed between them — they had cracked the recipe.
Then came the negotiation. Vinod claimed Hyderabad immediately — “I found it here, it's mine.” Vennala, who was already living in Bangalore, didn't even need to negotiate. She just said “I call Bangalore” and that was that.
The rule was simple: same recipe, same quality, no shortcuts — ever. That rule has never been broken.
Vinod
Hyderabad Operations
“Hyderabad gets food. I didn't have to explain kunafa to anyone here — they just trusted it. That says everything.”
Vennala
Bangalore Operations
“Bangalore was already ready for this. Sold out in 4 hours on Day 1. I texted Vinod one word: 'Told you.'”
The Journey
Year by Year
Vinod Finds Kunafa
Vinod, deep in one of his regular Hyderabad food hunts, walked into a small Middle Eastern café and ordered kunafa with zero idea what it was. He texted Vennala before he even finished the plate.
Amma's Kitchen Becomes a Lab
The siblings commandeered their mother's kitchen every weekend — sourcing akkawi cheese, testing dough ratios, and eating through every failed batch themselves. Amma eventually stopped asking questions.
Hyderabad, We're Here
Kunafa & Beyond opened in Madhapur. Vinod handled the kitchen, Vennala handled everything he forgot to handle. The queue on Day 1 was longer than either of them expected.
Vennala Takes Bangalore
Vennala was already in Bangalore — so launching there was a no-brainer. HSR Layout, Day 1. Sold out in 4 hours. She sent Vinod exactly one message: "Told you."
6 Branches. Still Arguing.
Three more locations across both cities. The siblings still debate whose city loves kunafa more. Customers in both cities claim the title. Nobody's settling this anytime soon.
